Jeffreys Bay – Surfing Heaven


One of the most appealing holiday resorts in South Africa is Jeffreys Bay located in The Eastern Cape Province not far West of Port Elizabeth. Situated on the coast with the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, it is an excellent vacation spot.

Jeffreys Bay is surrounded by rivers and nature reserves and is perfect for spending a few days combining relaxation on the sunny beaches and exploring some of the many activities available.

First and foremost visit the golden beaches. Jeffreys Bay is known for its renowned waves and is ideal for surfers. Being one of the top surfing destinations in the world, Jeffreys Bay hosts the annual Billabong Pro ASP World Tour drawing tourists from all over the world who come to either take part in the competition or just to watch.

There are many activities in the area for those who do not want to just lie and soak up the sun.  Visit the Shell Museum which has, on show, over 600 beautiful and unusual shells from all over the world.

Take a visit to Addo Elephant Park either on a guided tour or in the privacy of your own vehicle. Get close up views of elephants, black rhino, buffalo and a range of other animals. Accommodation is available at the park for those who wish to stay for more than one day.

Aside from its renowned surfing possibilities Jeffreys Bay is also famous for its copius seashells and calamari and is an ideal holiday location with its long stretches of golden sand beaches. Dolphin beach in particular is the recipient of the prestigious Blue Flag status awarded to beaches that meet strict international standards for safety and environmental protection.

Jeffreys Bay is a gateway to the Garden Route which runs from Port Elizabeth to Cape town and is in a prime location for the viewing of Dolphins and Whales especially during the months of June through December when the Southern Right Whales and dolphins arrive  from the cold waters of the Antarctic to the warmer waters of the Indian Ocean.  Bottle- nosed Dolphins and Humpback Whales can be seen along this part of the coast throughout the year. Orcas and Bryde Whales have also been known to be sighted at rare intervals.
For children there is the Dolphin Beach Entertainment with mini golf, waterslides, and quad bikes.
