Durban is the largest city in Kwazulu-Natal and the third largest city in South Africa with a population of around 3.5 million. Durban is a busy cosmopolitan city that offers tourists to South Africa as well as local visitors a large variety of leisure activities.

The city of Durban in Kwazulu-Natal was founded in 1835 when a party of white settlers that had been given the land by the Zulu chief Shaka decided to build a town with the intention of making it the capital of the area and name it Durban after Sir Benjamin D’urban who at that time was governor of the Cape Colony. Durban Port in South Africa is, today, the busiest container port in Africa as well as being a tourist mecca and houses an international convention centre that has hosted historic and global conferences.

There is so much to see and do in Durban, starting with the unbelievable beauty of the Valley of a Thousand Hills and moving along to the city centre. The metropolitan area of Durban is more than just a resort city; it is part of a captivating and delightful wonderland by the sea. Experience the excitement of Durban’s golden mile on the seafront with long stretches of beautiful beaches where the waves are ideal for surfers and the sand and sun is ideal for relaxation.

An exciting day can be spent at the uShaka Marine World – a theme park that is filled with the mysteries of the sea, a wonderful aquarium with displays indoors and outdoors. See the dolphins, seals, go snorkelling or even touch a shark. There are endless activities here for the whole family.

Other activities to enjoy while visiting Durban are the Fitzsimmons Snake Park where some of the most lethal snakes can be found or Mini Town which is a replica of the city of Durban. Children will love the moving trains and aeroplanes.

There are restaurants to suit every possible taste in Durban and lovers of curry will not be disappointed as curry is the best that can be found outside of India due to the very large Indian population. Shopping malls pubs, theatres and clubs can be found all over.
