KwaZulu Natal Province – formerly the Natal Province – is known for its panoramic combination of extensive beaches, natural wilderness and towering mountains. KwaZulu Natal’s industry consists mainly of Steel production, agriculture, and coal mining. Sugar cane, mangoes and many more tropical fruit are grown along the coast.

KwaZulu Natal is very active in conservation and has a number of reserves. It is also home to two Unesco World Heritage sites, the first being the Greater St Lucia Wetlands Park and the other is the UKhahlamba Drakensberg Park.

The region is packed with vacation sites and scenic drives. Pietermaritzburg is the capital of KwaZulu Natal and lies in between the mountains and the ocean. There are a number of attractions including a nature reserve and a number of museums.

The highest mountain range in Southern Africa is the Drakensberg and there is so much to see and do in the area. There are a number of National parks where one can enjoy many activities such as hiking, bird watching and rock climbing as well as trout fishing, white water rafting and many other sporting activities. There is also a wonderful exhibition of bushman paintings to be seen.

Durban, a very popular tourist destination has the most beautiful beachfront known as “The Golden Mile”. On the edge of the warm Indian Ocean the beaches are the perfect place to just lie and soak up the sun or alternatively surf the waves which are perfect for this sport. There are so many attractions in Durban for the whole family to enjoy which is why it is one of the most popular domestic holiday destinations in South Africa.
