The Panorama Route

The Panorama Route of Mpumalanga is one of many very popular places to visit in the former Transvaal Province of South Africa.

Many believe that the most stunning scenery will be found at the Blyde River Canyon, starting at “Bourkes Luck Potholes “and ending at “the three rondavels,” all part of the Northern Drakensberg Mountain Range. The best time to view this magnificent scenic wonder is during the dry winter months.

When traveling in Mpumalanga (formerly the Eastern Transvaal) along the Panorama route, visitors will enjoy viewing the lovely waterfalls and interesting historical sites. The towns of Ohrigstad, Pilgrims Rest, and Hazyview, amongst others, will provide a picture of the life of the early settlers to the area. In addition, one of the rarest birds in the world – the Taita falcon, can be seen on the Abel Erasmus Pass.

Those searching for adventure will be offered extensive options of adrenaline-rushing excitement like white water rafting, bungee jumping, rock climbing, and many other activities. Bird watching, game viewing, and other activities, including the opportunity to pan for gold, are available for the less adventurous, amongst numerous other activities for all.

The scenic opportunities are limitless, with waterfalls, caves, mountains, and picturesque old towns abound. The Panorama Route of Mpumalanga is a must for visitors to South Africa.
