Lesedi Village

Situated within easy reach of both Johannesburg and Pretoria  is the Lesedi Cultural Village where visitors will be welcomed with African warmth by music and song and enjoy finding out about the traditional cultures of  the Pedi, Zulu, Xhosa, Basotho and Ndebele tribes of South Africa.

In 1993 Lesedi, the seSotho word meaning “light”, was initiated as an attraction for tourists and featuring five traditional dwellings of the above five tribes. Families representing these historic tribal groups now live in the Lesedi village permanently taking care of their chickens and cows and breathing life into their captivating cultures.

When the Lesedi Cultural village was established, members of the various tribes assisted in the design of each of the homesteads making sure of the authenticity of the different tribal ways of life and traditions.

It is possible to stay overnight or just visit for the day.  Overnight visitors are welcomed with true African warmth and escorted to the homestead where they will be staying, by members of the families. The family head will then become their personal guide during the length of their stay. Accommodation is in comfortable traditionally styled rooms and after settling in will be treated to the discovery of the enthralling features of the people of Lesedi and their cultures. Luxury accommodation and suites are also available.

Day visitors are made just as welcome and are provided with an amazing and unforgettable cultural experience including a guided tour and a multi visual presentation.

To complete your visit you can enjoy a rich dining experience of traditional African food and browse around the Ndebele village with the beautifully decorated walls and courtyard and craft market.

If you are visiting just for the day, you could always look for a car hire company and have this booked before you go. It is a really good way of seeing a little bit more of the country with the comfort and convenience of a rented car and you simply return it to the pick up point when you no longer need it as transport.

The Lesedi Cultural Village is an experienced not to missed while touring South Africa.
